After slipping into a coma, Maddie and Nick wake up in Spase: the world between states of existence. Becoming Big Burly Betsy, Maddie fights to help save the souls stuck in Spase. Jealous of Maddie's status as The Guide, Nick devises a plan to sabotage their every move. Under the guidance of Reynolds, the deceased family dog, will Maddie be able to save the souls trapped in there, dodge those who attempt to squash their strength, and still be able to wake up? Maddie finds out that in Spase, nothing is as it seems.
