Lance, to put it simply, was an awful prince. Mostly because he was never supposed to be one, and being completely thrown into the role at age ten with exactly zero instruction didn't help. Things had a sudden change. And another. And one more time, as he found himself tumbling out of his sleep pod and into a very pretty person. This person was not Altean. Nor was this person even female. That was distressing. They grew closer, fighting together, becoming a good team. His attraction didn't die off. It just came with the added bonus of actual romantic feelings he couldn't do anything about. Lance was still an awful prince, even if he had nothing to be prince of.

It forces the Lions and Castle from the stream and separates them throughout the depths of space, Lance alone in the dark. Floating in empty nothingness with a dead lion around him, Lance finds Blue's communications fried, unable to contact the rest of the team. Who is to find him, but a faction of the rebellion, including one out-of-place and very-much-human Matthew Holt? This is shaping up to be more of an adventure than Lance anticipated. What does it feel like? For people to actually care about you? To actually make sure that you're okay? Lance has forgotten that feeling, ever since team voltron had been formed he was he seventh wheel, even when he did something Keith would always be patted on the back for it, becoming the eight wheel after they rescued Matt. Being betrayed after his lion was taken from him because he was 'unfit', 'not working hard enough' because he ' didn't deserve it'. So he left. left the paladins with their problems, left everything behind and started his own, brand new life as the white paladin.
