A történet eleje akár átlagosnak is tűnhet: Adott egy lány, név szerint Kitayama Machiko, aki igencsak magának való és távolságtartó mindenkivel. Ennek oka nagy részt talán az, hogy első szerelme, Kojima Seiji is abba a gimnáziumba jár, amibe ő és nem elég, hogy a fiú nem fogja fel, kapcsolatuknak már rég vége, folyamatosan zaklatja a lányt az iskolán belül és kívül is. Machiko szerencsére talál maga mellé egy remek testőrt az új fiú, Shirokawa Kazuma személyében, aki nem csak, hogy titokzatos és lehengerlően jóképű, de figyelemfelkeltő, ezüstös haja mellett furcsa szemszínnel rendelkezik. Kazuma már az első napján megkedveli a csendes lányt, ami szinte elkerülhetetlen, lévén, hogy a későbbiekben padtársak lesznek, túltengő buzgósága miatt pedig egyből kiharcolja magának Seiji riválisának címét. Ezek után Machiko természetesen kénytelen a fiúra támaszkodni, akinek alig néhány nap alatt sikerül bevergődnie magát valahogyan a lány életébe és lakótársakká válnak.
