BOOK ONE of the Colors of Us series
-----
"You know it's very rude to text your boyfriend while you're at dinner with your family." My eyes shoot up to Vic's as she sits across the table from me, sipping her sweet tea, innocent as ever while our parents converse beside us.
"You know it's very rude to repeatedly call someone something they're not," I mock. Vic just smirks.
"Yet," she says, twirling pasta onto her fork. "Don't think I haven't noticed that you eat lunch together. Or that he's practically attached at the hip with you in paint."
I roll my eyes. "We're friends. That's kinda how friendship works, if you weren't aware," I say, spooning soup into my mouth.
"He looks at you, you know. When you're not looking. That's like the number one sign that a guy likes you," she says. I shake my head. This conversation is useless with my impressionable little sister who's probably read a few too many romance novels.
"Whatever," I say with a laugh.
----------
Astrid Keller, self-proclaimed theatre nerd and aspiring artist, expected her junior year of high school to be no different than any other year of her life. Anxiety ridden and utterly shy, she was content with being invisible and anti-social as always. But life had other things in store for her. And an incident on the first day of school has her socializing with the notoriously adorable Will Haven-and possibly crushing on him. Before she knows it, she knows more about this boy than even his closest friends do. But how is she supposed to tell him she likes him when she couldn't even talk to him only months before?
