Though skeptical at first, Thomas becomes involved when he's tasked with delivering supplies to the transfer yards near the mines, where the narrow gauge engines will pick them up. As he approaches the fog-covered transfer yard, strange things begin to happen. He hears a mysterious whistle and catches glimpses of a shadowy figure near the mine entrance, convincing him that the stories of the Whistler may be more than just folklore. With the help of Rusty, Thomas manages to complete his task, but the eerie experience leaves him and the other engines shaken. Though no one can confirm whether the Whistler is real, Thomas is left wondering about the strange happenings at Cregwier. The story blends elements of suspense, folklore, and camaraderie, with plenty of banter between the engines as they grapple with the possibility of a haunted mine on Sodor!
