Instead of gladiators being forced to fight to the death and buy their freedom, there were simply slaves. They weren't entirely legal, but your own government was more than willing to look the other way. You escaped the system. You had a family. You made a life yourself. As a result of leaving, you got that life taken away. Nowadays, you help others escape the system and make sure they don't face the same consequences. When Megatron returns from his self-exile, he finds himself facing the same system he sought to destroy so long ago. He also finds himself connecting to you, the leader of a new uprising. You, all he could've been if he hadn't fed his ambition.
