Salamatu smiled and scoffed, her signature evil gesture. This was not the first time her husband Mallam Garba was bringing a new wife into their home and she was sure it's not going to be the last, but what she was most certain about is that, this new wife, just like the 18 others that left before her, would not live to tell the story in Garba's house. A dramatic polygamous household, awestruck and humor filled rollercoaster.

The door flung open into the dark room, lightening struck the dark sky shining a little light on the shirtless man that stood by the doorway. "Who's there" my shaky voice masked with fear asked. Paying a deaf ear to my question he walked deeper into the room towards my bed as my shaky hands drew the covers higher over my whimpering self, right up to my nose. "Khalil?" my voice sounded weird coming through the thick duvet, it felt awkward calling his name I mean am I even allowed to call him that? I was more scared now that I knew who it was. What was he doing in room? A loud thunder sound came as he sat beside me, a little too close. Does this man know he's shirtless and in my room at eleven p.m? "Have you chosen a surrogate?" his thick voice cut through the sound of raindrops and my train of thoughts. I slowly shook my head at him. "Relax"He raised his hand to my face which was still covered halfway and slowly dragged down the covers down to my abdomen revealing my bare arms in my spaghetti strap v neck nightwear. I scanned the room for my robe and found it hanging on the coat rack in the far end of my room, I would get up to get it but my nightgown didn't really qualify as a gown. I watched his eyes travel up my body landing on my chest, his Adams apple bobbed up. He shut his eyes and when he opened them, they landed on mine sending shivers down my spine... Hidaya Hassan Abdulqadir thought she lost it all when her parents and lover all died in a plane crash, she slowly tried to move on from then letting the almighty take control after a year of grieving. I was 15 when I first noticed the sadness, loneliness and longing in my Baba's eyes, perhaps it had been there all the while but he was so good at hiding it or perhaps, I was too young to understand.

General Omar Bako was an affluent man who had a capital M to his money. On his quest to acquire more fortune, despite Ahlam being his favorite-he betrothed her in a parley. Money first, then family. She was left to joggle between her career - Software Engineering (to the Bako's, there were two occupations. Engineering and the disgrace), one sided love of her cousin Omar Jr. who avoided her like a plaque ( doggelganger to his Grandpa), and meeting her new family. Omar Bako always said, "It's better to choke on greatness, than to nibble on mediocrity." What seemed like literal words became a reality when he was found in a pool of his own blood. Stabbed by his own! The family he worked hard to build. What was the reason-money, greed or betrayal?
