Rhiannon Dawn Wylie was a name widely known around the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, floating from mouth to mouth as if a mythic creature, not a junior in high school. Some adults called Rhiannon crass, reckless, or a degenerate. Some kids called her free-spirited, cool, a small-town celebrity, or the life of the party.
All agreed that Rhiannon was untouchable.
Like most myths, there were warning signs that you were in the presence of Rhiannon Wylie. The smell of cigarettes, brandy, and essential oils would be your first warning. Then the unmistakable curly blonde hair bigger than life, always looking as if she had just been thrown through a tornado yet still came out on the other side with a smile so sharp you'd think she was trying to bite you. Your last warning would be her words, sharp and sarcastic yet somehow still sickly sweet.
Everyone knew that Rhiannon was going somewhere, that she would someday leave Hawkins and make it big, leaving nothing but ghost stories about her within the town until the end of time. While it felt egotistical, Rhiannon also knew that she was going somewhere. Maybe it was a dream, maybe it was a gut-sense, but she knew that she was destined to do something great or nothing at all.
When tragedy strikes and Rhiannon's little brother from another father goes missing, she must step into a world of what ifs and unknowns. Along the way, she discovers that Hawkins has myths and secrets of its own, making her realize that perhaps people weren't the issue. At least, not the ones she originally thought.
