Rights and responsibilities is the 2014 theme of National History Day Contest, a broad topic. And I chose to write a just as broad topic of human rights. What are human rights? Is it to prove we're human? Prove that we're humans are right? Or to tell us apart from aliens? Though, now that I think of it, all extraterrestrial beings should have rights as well, but let's just have the Men in Black deal with that- But before getting off of topic, let's focus back on this. As you read about this, think about these questions (not the alien one, unless you want to). Think about what it takes to not only be human, to act like one too. And after you read this, think to yourself. Do you have the right to be human? This essay won first place for the 2014 National History Day essay contest in California.

Abby has always just been identified as stutter girl. Her high school life was a complete disaster, she lived in her sister's shadow the entire time and any chance she had at having a social life was brutally murdered after Scott Rogers mocked her about her stuttering their very first day of freshman year. Scott is the quote on quote 'bad boy' of the school. Or at least that's what everyone else has him pinned as. He may be a huge flirt, but he sure doesn't sleep around. He genuinely only made fun of Abby that first day because he was curious, but then again with Scott his curiosity isn't always what he should lead by. Of course Scott and Abby went their separate ways after Scott got kicked out several weeks after the incident, and Abby was eternally grateful for that. She thought she'd never have to see her bully again since he had been shipped off to private school. But then college came along and with college comes new people...and maybe even a few old ones. What happens when not only are Scott and Abby reunited but they have to share a room? Could it be love? Hate? Follow Scott and Abby as they explore feelings they never thought they'd ever get the chance to experience and maybe even more than that. 9/21/17: #1 in Chicklit

We all know about Declan, Bennett, Jordan and Naomi. The four Musketeers. Though they may have had some road bumps, they're all best friends. Naomi is their good girl, and they are her bad boys. Finally, Naomi is not as bullied as she used to. How could she be bullied when she has her three big, bad body guards? Things are finally starting to get better... And then she enters the picture. Alexa Reed. She's just your normal teenage girl. Or else that's what she wants you to think. With a dark past she would rather keep buried, she cuts herself off from the world, refusing to let anyone in while trying to run away and recover from the past that still leaves its scars on her. And unfortunately for her, she somehow she catches the Musketeers attention. Secrets are made and broken. Lies are told. And the Musketeers manage to pick away at the wall Alexa has put up to separate herself from the world. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together, one secret at a time. Because now, they are her bad boys. And she's their Not-so Good Girl.

If you're judging this book by its cover and title, you're already proving the point this story wants to make. Try to move past this satirical obstacle in front of you. This is a story about bullying, and like the hundreds of other books on the topic, it will show you the harsh reality of being discriminated, belittled, ridiculed for something you cannot control- how you look, who you love, or what you believe in. But unlike these books, this story's sole purpose is not to tear your heart out of your chest as you mourn over your loss of faith in humanity. Instead, this book will make you laugh and love alongside these characters. Just like in life, there will be moments of dread and surrender, but there will also be moments of happiness, laughter, and love. - Naomi Lorraine, better known as Nerdy Naomi with her thick-rimmed glasses and straight-A report card, is the most unpopular girl in her school. Even with the help of her sarcastic comebacks, that doesn't stop her from getting bullied by everyone in Dartwell High. Every day her childhood bully, Raymond Meyers, knocks her off her feet, literally. However, she can't do anything but survive the laughs, insults, and bruises high school gives her. There are three senior transfer students, dubbed the Three Musketeers: Bennett Frazier, Jordan Wallace, and Declan Lynch. All in one day, Naomi catches their attention one by one. With her snarky attitude, but innocent look, they can't help but want her. But not the way you're thinking. Oh no, not like that. Instead, it's probably the whole opposite. It's quite simple really. She'll be their good girl.
