You were kidnapped by a ghoul named Big Madam when you were a child and forced to perform in her circus acts with your partner Rei. You've been performing with him for years, wondering if you would ever become free from your "Mama".

One day, a kind ghoul saw a human child walking around in the 13th Ward looking for a place to stay. The ghoul, of course, wouldn't want to let her die. So he, being the kind ghoul he is, took her in. Unfortunately, the CCG (who appears to be hunting the ghoul) found their whereabouts and prisoned them in the Cochlea. Every day, the ghoul would be tortured so that he would spill information about his association. The ghoul was loyal to his association, so he kept quiet. One day, the CCG couldn't take it anymore and so they did an experiment on the human child. When they told (more like showed) about what happened to the human child, the ghoul lost control of his sanity and killed all the investigators who were keeping him and the child prisoners. When he regained sanity, he took the child to a safe place and left her in the hands of human loving ghouls. That child was soon known as Phoenix.
