I don't usually write stories like this. But I was told this story by a friend and needed to write it. Based on a true story from Indian Head, Saskatchewan. A short horror story.

There's something about red-headed little girls that seems to make everyone believe that they have to be the most delightful little children who talk too much and have a larger imagination than the number of freckles on their nose. But it's not 1908 anymore. Matthew Cuthbert isn't going to pick up Anne Shirley in a buggy. Matthew Cuthbert is going to meet Anne's social worker first, and then will find a girl who was always meant to be happy, but never quite was because it's a dog eat dog world, and she had found herself on the wrong end of that equation. Anne Shirley is an orphan who grew up in the foster care system, unloved and unwanted. Anne Shirley grew up with social media criticizing her body image and cultivating her fears. Anne Shirley grew up in group homes and foster families, and things happened there that she would never tell the outside world. Parts of Anne have been left in the various hells she has been forced to live in, and Matthew can only pray that he will be able to pull her out.
