Rae Hunter exists between the "then," the "now" and the "what will be." Ever since surviving one of the biggest earthquakes to hit the West Coast, Rae has been able to see into the pasts of those she touches, as well as into their futures. Her visions make normal life difficult, to say the least, but when her "sight" reveals the end of the world, Rae must find a way to protect herself and the people she loves from what she believes to be the coming apocalypse.

7 years after his graduation from high school, the narrator -only known as "G"- looks back on a better time during his teens. Spending his days drinking and listening to smooth jazz with his coworker at the office; G reflects on time lost, and the friends that have gone with it. A Waltz in the Sea is a story of a young man's coming of age, and his essence of boredom and melancholy, shadowed by the existentialism that is growing up in the 21st century.
