Emily is a freshman in high school. She seems like the average teenage girl. She's funny, friendly, smart, and has great friends. But something is different about her. She's the only girl on her high school drumline. After adjusting to high school and her drumline full of guys, she grows to love them. She spends several hours practicing with them. Even though there's a lot of joking around, they put in the work and become a really talented line. And then one day, a new guy comes in. He's a freshman, and he joins the drumline. He's actually really good, and Emily notices something different about him. A good different. They become good friends, and eventually it all changes. Will they be drumline family? Or will they be more?

Alexis Grace Porter grew up as a happy, kind, beautiful girl. People said she'd grow up and marry rich, never to earn her place in the world. She believed them. They learn that there is a fine line between love and hate. How do they decide who gets top dog? Will their relationship make it? Will the drumline make it? Or will it crumble?
