"Apologize." "Wha?" He was in disbelief. "Apologize for what?" "Apologize for skipping the session." I grinned. "And being rude. Also promise not to do it again." "No." He scoffed. I began rolling my window up. "Stop!" He panicked. "Fine." His eyes went to the ground and he let out a groan before looking at me. His face started to turn a bright red. I tried to keep myself from grinning. "I'm sorry." He muttered. "For?" I asked. "For skipping the tutoring session." He mumbled. "And?" I teased. "Being rude." He forced out. "Say it together and a bit louder hun. I can't hear you." I encouraged. "I'm sorry for being rude and skipping the session. I won't do it again." He spoke through gritted teeth. He stared at the pavement with angry eyes. I clapped. "Now was that so hard?" _________________________________________ "Chrys..." a voice called. "Hmm." I mumbled. I didn't want to wake up. I wanted to go back to my Star Trek dream. "Chrys. Were here." The same voice said. "Cool." I mumbled getting more comfortable than I was before by snuggling into what I was lying against. "You gotta get up." "I wanna go back to my dream." I murmured snuggling up more. "What was the dream about?" "Star Trek. I was the commander." I smiled as I wished I could go back. The voice chuckled but for some reason, whatever I was lying on shook at the same time. "Why is my pillow moving?" I muttered. "I'm not a pillow." The voice chuckled and my pillow shook again. _________________________________________ Chrysanthe Scott just wants to get senior year over with. She's done with everyone's drama. Samuel Brandt woke up with his thoughts written all over his body. His brother woke up with his head missing. His sister woke up to find that her skin would crack open unless she stayed in water. All of the other children in the secluded Iowa town of Oak Knoll woke up having undergone strange transformations. Now, they are all forced to live at 407 West Marshall Street, the mysterious house outside of town. With the new name of The Boy with Words for Skin, Samuel wants nothing more than to hide from his new life. He painfully and unpredictably sheds his skin, there is a Voice in the entryway closet that is often cruel, and-perhaps worst of all for a naturally shy boy-the other children look to him as a leader. As his seven-year-old brother struggles with their new life, as terrifying growls start to come from the pitch black basement, and as his feelings for a girl begin to grow, The Boy with Words for Skin realizes that he wants to change. He wants to put others first, learn from his peers, and let himself hope that things will get better. The Boy with Words for Skin is the first book in the 407 West Marshall Street series. Each book will advance the story but be told from a different character. Book 2 will be The Girl without Eyes.
