In 1826, in the country of Lwendolen, the elite Quad family stands as the upper crust and cream of society. The daughter, Valerie, is engaged to a man with a name attached to success and fortune, but her older brother Henry is mentally unstable and a failure and that is unacceptable to their father. Valerie's fiance seems like a charming man but behind that mask is another man who only cares about himself and the Quad fortune. What role will he play in the Quad family's life? On top of that, something else is working behind the scenes here. In the middle of the winter, the Quads' hidden past will soon be unearthed through murder and deceit, staining the snow crimson. ~There is no success without failure, but a Failure will never succeed.~ (Dark human drama and satire. Omniscient lit-fic.) Trigger Warning: there are scenes of domestic violence, physical abuse, opium addiction, depression, and lots of murders. I won't turn you away, but you have been warned. There is ZERO smut. Nordic winters are brutally cold, and they do a great job at depleting resources. Surviving one of these winters often takes determination and the stubbornness of a Viking. That is, assuming no problems arise. But when a horde of territorial and venomous dragons arrives in Berk, ensuring his tribe's survival quickly becomes something Hiccup must work at in order to accomplish. Warning: This story contains some violence and graphic descriptions. This story is loosely based on the episode "Frozen" from the DreamWorks Dragons TV series. "Escaped? Who?" "Mika Mendes, 18. That patient in ward no.301. Sir, I made sure she had the sleeping pills tonight. How--" "That patient who was filing missing complaints of people who didn't exist?" "Yes sir. The Hospital's reputation is in danger now, if anyone knows about it." ******* Unable to sustain herself in Monterrey after dropping out of University, Mika returns to Vineville, the town she has been born and raised in. Eight years have flown by, since Mika left Vineville for Monterrey to forget a violent family tragedy. But her native town feels strangely changed to her, she says. She notices earthquakes happening nightly, crowds of deep red spirals on most houses, and many churches destroyed, an impossible thing for the deeply religious Vineville of three years ago. When citizens start disappearing, and no one seems remember them afterwards, Mika teams up with an old friend Sam, who helps her escape from the Vineville Psychiatric Hospital, to find answers.

When a total stranger knows what eats you, maybe they are your one true love. Even if you don't know it yet. || On Friday the 13th, two twenty-something, Daya and Mike, end up in a mutually beneficial arrangement: she is his caregiver after he breaks his foot; he provides room&board to help her out with a teeny-tiny cash flow problem. Not a whiff of a romance, strictly business. And for a while, all is good... for about five minutes, that is. What can an overweight man, a video game obsessed librarian, know about her quitting a challenging sport of figure skating, Daya scoffs. He needs to get off her case and sort out his binge eating! What does a celery-chewing skating diva care about his failure as a PhD candidate, Mike wonders. She is just replacing her dreams with his non-existing problems instead of pursuing her one true passion! With the two already teetering on the brink of mutually assured destruction, oil splashes onto the flames when Daya resumes her never-ending quest for skating triumph at Canadian Nationals. (Well, that should make Mike happy, right? Right?) But isn't there *something* worth fighting for *together*? Like, you know, love? COMPLETED. First Published: August 19, 2019 Trigger warning: This story contains themes of eating disorders and body image insecurity (male).
