"Are you sure you want to do this?" I asked Xander, my voice void of any emotions. I was in my warrior stance in front of the whole pack. Back straight, hands folded in front of me and feet shoulder-width apart. I know I looked composed because that's my training. Be composed; don't lose control. Don't lose the battle. But all I wanted to do was run into his arms. Beg him to reconsider. Promise him that I would be the best for him. "I, Xander Valverde, Future Alpha of The Nightfall Pack reject you Anala Rozinov as my mate." With those words, I felt our bond begin to break. It was agonizing like being whipped and have those wounds have acid poured on them. That burning sensation started in my heart, and I felt it spread throughout my body. I took a shaky breath but remained cold and emotionless. I needed to leave quickly; I need to find somewhere safe. "I, Anala Rozinov, Daughter of Beta Keone Rozinov accept your rejection as your mate," I replied my voice, surprisingly even and cold. "You are now free to join the Alpha King's Army. Please go pack your things and report to my office. The King will be sending someone to collect you." He said, his voice rough with emotions. "Sorry Alpha. But I have decided I will go rogue." There were gasps among the crowd. The Alpha looked appalled this wasn't a part of the plan. No one refused the King. But I refuse to be another playing card for another pack. No more. I want my freedom. If my mate isn't it, I will find my own way. BOOK 2 OF THE BIG BAD WOLF SERIES: He seems troubled and I want nothing more to rub the creases in his forehead away - so I do. Before I even realize what I'm doing my hand brushes his cheek and I trace his jaw line with my palm, my thumb gently rubbing his cheek. I snatch my hand away as my face beets red but he catches it. He tilts my head up by placing a gentle finger on my chin and lifting it up, at the same time putting my hand back on his cheek. He holds my hand there, my eyes wide and stuck in his yet again. I'm drowning in his eyes... "What were you and Milo talking about?" He says suddenly and this time I do free my hand from his hold. I just shrug at him as my eyes break away from his and I jump off the counter, only to be met by Donovan's chest. I push his chest lightly, signalling him that I want him to move but he doesn't. "Anya, what were you talking about with Milo?" I furrow my eyebrows together and frown at him. It's none of his business what I decided to tell Milo. I shrug at him again and successfully push past him, only to be pulled back by strong arms. I shriek but I'm cut short as I make slam into his broad chest, his arms turning me around and wrapping around me, pulling me closer to him. He's...hugging me.... A story of a broken human is introduced to a new world - is it possible that its more hellish than her already cursed life?

"Light up my darkness," he murmured against her bare flesh. His fingers trailed up her arm, leaving a blazing fire beneath them. His lips pressed softly against her shoulder and her eyes fluttered closed, accepting his touch. "Let go and I'll take away all of the pain." She desperately wanted to free herself from the torture of the heat, of the shift, of the sadness, but she pushed his firm chest away from her. She yearned to finally fulfill her place among the divine. She desired to guide and protect the species. She wished to eliminate the Challengers. The longer she endured the pain, the more power she would attain to help her fulfill her responsibilities. To the men who watched her ascend, it looked as if she was interacting with thin air, but she knew he was there with her. She smiled softly at him, caressing his cheek. "My Darkness, let the pain fester within me. I crave it." * The Betrayal is a part of The Marking Trilogy and cannot be read as a stand-alone book. The Marking must be read first.* Cover by @Finding_Bria
