So with nothing better to do than to wallow in his self pity, and run after Yelena, Rafael stayed, working, hoping to save up money to get into Harvard himself. Enlisting in the army, he signed up for a four year contract with them, hoping this could help him achieve his goals. He's beyond furious when he finds out his father lied to him, but by the time it comes out it's too late to leave and pick up the scholarship. So with help from the personal officer and his troop commander, Rafael gets the chance to take his undergrad with the army before they send him off to Harvard for his law degree, but only if he promises to come back and work with them after graduating. That's where the story begins. Rafael is fresh out of Harvard and back at his old base, Fort Hamilton. Where we meet Private First Class Jessica "Jess" Amaro (that last name sounds familiar doesn't it? She's related to Nick Amaro, but Rafi won't know that for a few years). Jess is a "gorgeous and opinionated military police soldier" as Rafael would describe her, and really, she is that, but so much more. Not only is there an 7 year gap between the two, but he also out ranks her. Will they end up together? Or are they destined to be apart? Keep reading to find out!
