What is love for you? I tend to find this answer in many books. But what I was left with were certain doubts. Frequently seeing possessiveness, and domination as attributes of love. I tried to find peace in it. But what I was left with was a qualm about how you changed the one whom you claimed to leave. This is an attempt to understand these ideas and discuss them in detail. Though with a doubt, does all love have a beautiful end?

There was confusion in the eyes of the seven year old Surangi as they dipped mango leaves into the sandal-turmeric paste to anoint her. She did not know what marriage meant, she was just told that she would move into a new home in a village far away and Yashoda mami would be her mother-in-law. Fighting back tears she clutched her carved sandalwood doll, trying not to miss her mother Kaveri whose recent demise had prompted her father to agree to the alliance between Surangi and Madhav, the eleven year old son of Raghav, Kaveri's distant cousin. Shridhar knew he could not bring up his daughter alone. He was constantly under pressure to take a new bride to bear him the much desired son as his late wife had only left behind a daughter. He chose to marry little Surangi off in accordance with the custom of the day rather than leave her at the mercy of a step-mother.

Calcutta, India. 1899 Being a woman in this age means being tied under the shackles created by the British and an equally orthodox society. Headstrong and outgoing, Anvesha doesn't care what people think about her. She is not one of those women who stay in their homes and pop children for their husbands. She is determined to pry her freedom. Alexander Stewart is a "childishly" arrogant man of eighteen. His journey to life begins when he comes to India with his two best friends, Matthew Hemmings and Jordan Wedlock. The day he crosses paths with the fierce looking Indian woman, he's sure that coming to India was the worst of his decisions. But will time change his mind? With dead eyes, Cami looked in front. Tears were sliding down from her eyes, her busted lip, her chopped hairs. Her bruised up face, all of this was screaming for help. Soon, she receives a smack on her face. Her body was shivering a lot. With trembling hands, she touched the wall to get up but again received a kick on her stomach, earning a yelp. Somehow, she stood up and looked at the person who was hitting her. She can't even ask for mercy, as she knew it's going to be worse. She looked at the person carrying a baseball bat. And soon the sound of broken ribs can be heard. Blood was coming out of her mouth. She knew she is dying, and as her last words she whispered to her attacker, 'Thank you" With this, she fell to the ground and closed her eyes. ****** This story is dark and will only get darker as the story progresses. It has depression, betrayal, self-harm, bullying, mental health issues, etc. If these topics trigger you. I request you all to not read further as this book is a roller coaster ride of emotions.
