Cursing, I pushed myself to my feet and I wanted to start running when a voice stopped me dead in my tracks. "Don't even try it," he warned. His voice was low, threatening, and somehow I froze to the bone. Two feet away from me stood a guy, fingers closed around Jessica's arm who was trying really hard to catch her breath because of her failed escape attempt. And the moment his whiskey colored eyes met mine it felt like all the air got squeezed out of my lungs. I don't know if it was because of the icy look in his way too dark eyes or because of the almost unreal perfection of his face, but it felt like a punch in my stomach. As if the strength left my muscles right then and there. He was staring at me. There was nothing to read from the dark galaxies that were his eyes. It made me look longer, intrigued by it. Fascinated. But when Jessica tried to pull away and he didn't move for an inch, the reality came back, splashing in my face like a cold bucket of water. There was no time for weakness. --- "Trust me, I'm doing you a favor." "You're doing me a favor if you go away. I'm not going to work for you. I won't say it again." He lowered his head and brought his lips dangerously close to my ear. I felt his warm breath brush against the nape of my neck. I gasped and something in my stomach squeezed together. "Prohibited access for unauthorized persons, article 461 of the Criminal Code. Destruction, article 350. Maybe saving your dog was an excuse and you attempted a burglary, article 45. Do you want me to continue?" Slowly, I turned to him and stepped back so there was a safe space between us. The corners of his mouth were pulled in a small smile. A calculating, manipulating smile. As if he could make me do everything he wanted. "There are security camera's in my house, everything is on it. I can go to the police with it if I want to." His dark eyes travelled over my face, searching for my reaction. "Or you can work for me."
