Josette Mikaelson is a descendant of a woman who was part of the Salem Witch trials that occurred in the late 1600's. They believe that Josette is a witch as well, in fear of her life she runs away from her family ending up in Boston Massachusetts. She is taken in the care of Sarah Shaw and Francis Shaw, the parents of Robert Gould Shaw. Robert is an American solider and is away from his home for three years, Josette has been staying with his parents for one year, Robert comes back but needs to head of to war yet again as the Colonel in Charge of the 54 Massachusetts Infantry, the first all-black regiment in the Northeast.
