"Careful human." The...thing said in a concerned voice. "W-What are you, what d-do you want?" I shakily asked him, curling up my body protecting myself. "Shh human don't be afraid. You are my mate." What is a mate? Why did he bring me here? Who is he? Why is he looking at me like that? From the distance I put between us I could admire him more, and his tail. He really is beautiful. It was a deep teal green colour with gold and blue blended in with it that reminded me of his eyes. He was holding himself up with his arms looking at me curiously, head slightly bent to the side and all. "What are you, what do you want?" I asked slowly, my heartbeat had almost reduced to normal again but I was feeling a strange pull towards the creature in front of me. "I am a Merman and you are my mate." His voice was deep and sounded like music the way he spoke. But mate? "Mate?" I asked hoping to find out the way in which he directed this word. "My love," he paused looking into my hazel eyes. "Come closer human you are beautiful...and mine."

He knew that Hice wouldn't like him disappearing, and he might not even make it very far before his body gave out, but he was determined to put his worries behind him and push forward to try and help himself. Being a mer living among humans was something Callem and his brother were finally beginning to get used to. They dressed in clothing, most of the time. They ate without making a mess, sometimes. And they loved their humans, or in Mellac's case, their human's bodies. But when Fri turns up out of the blue, and new, mysterious hunters appear close behind, things begin to spiral out of control, fast.

He was poison. The kind that seeped into your veins and pumped with your blood. The moment he breathed the same air as you, you were infected. The kind that killed you slowly until the moment it decided it was your time and then it happened all at once. Every time, every time you could hand me the antidote and I would refuse it. Cause I secretly thrived to have his poison rushing through my body. If I was infected it meant he was close, meant he was there. How long could I survive this? How long would it take for him to kill me? After all, the moment we locked eyes I had one foot in the grave.
