Elena Crandall is just an average fifteen-year old girl, except for one thing. She knows when a person is going to die, based on whether or not they are surrounded by shadows that only she can see. She never asked for this gift, but it's never told her anything devastating. Until now. On the morning of her sixteenth birthday, Elena discovers through her talent that her mother has only a month to live. Desperate to rescue her, Elena, with the help of her friends, attempts to stop fate and save her family. In italics at the beginning of each chapter is one or two sentences from a poem called Dancing with Shadows. I wrote this poem when I was maybe 16 or so. When I started writing this story, I thought it would be cool to include the poem. :) Updates are very sporadic, rather occasional, but they do happen. I have a lot of things to do, and it can be hard to get to this, but I do sometimes. :) Thank you to everyone who reads this! If you like it, please don't forget to comment and vote! :) This fantastic cover was made by the amazing LadyClandestine.

Shortly after leaving Earth in the 21st century, humanity settled on Echo in hopes of a fresh start. Instead, it entered a dark age. Fast forward 1200 years later. Aside from advances in weapons technology, progress has ground to a halt. Government and corporations long ago merged into the oppressive authority known as the Regime. Military and police similarly merged into the Department of Enforcement. A war that has lasted over a thousand years still rages between Regime forces and a huge network of rebels known as the Dissidents. Despite having the inherent beauty of Old Earth, cityscapes cover over half the planet, pushing out the natural grace of Echo . Hope lies within Atriya, a bitter and crippled former Enforcer. Only he has the potential to break Echo's cycle of ignorance and darkness. But before he can do this for the planet, he must do it within himself.
