Evie Fox has successfully managed to float throughout her own life unnoticed since acquiring freedom from Children of the Holy Redeemer at sixteen in July of 1990. From rural Missouri to Louisiana she assumed she had found her freedom across state lines but she could never truly escape the confines of her mind. What she had gone through still haunted her at twenty in January of 1995. Living alone, her only companion being a cane corso, and making ends meet tending bar she was the furthest thing from happy.
That hadn't really changed when Detective Rustin Cohle found himself in her bar questioning the girls she looked after. He was out of place, trapped within his own conscience, and like her was neither truly free nor happy. When she had the opportunity to ask him what he was searching for, much to her surprise, it was more than the identity of the woman found dead in Erath.
Slowly things did start to change. Some for the better and some for the worse.
