Ever since NieR:Automata came out I've completely fallen in love with the game and its characters. I thought 2B was going to be my favorite through thick and thin but A2 showed up. I really wish she had more screen and play time. This is my attempt to try and bring out her character and develop background for her. Non canon! *POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

A man in a lab coat walks through a long, white hallway. He enters what seems to be a laboratory, one would assume he works there, were he to simply pretend he did. In actuality, he was there to collect the belongings of a deceased boy. Marcus Aurelius, aged 17, died of the Creeping Plague. Marcus was a unique individual, extremely gifted in human enhancement, a prodigy of engineering and medical sciences. This was aided in no small part by his genetic enhancements. Marcus was one of the first children made this way, and the only success. There were other children, the doctor mused, now in a biohazard suit, though they all perished. He paused, before continuing to rummage through a cupboard in Marcus' desk. Marcus had told the doctors time and again that he was close to a cure, and firmly refused any treatment that would cloud his senses. Unfortunately, Marcus succumbed to his illness before his work was finished. A colleague of his was sent to collect his research. He'd found what he'd been looking for, a large notebook simply labeled 'Cure'. Inside said journal was exactly what one would expect to find. Measurements, recordings of animal experiments, hypothesis of what might work. More rarely seen though were personal entries, the ramblings of a dying man. What he wished he could do but couldn't. A frequent topic being that of his fury that he couldn't use mechanical enhancements. Cyborgs and the like were forbidden in this country, though he believed he'd had a cure regardless. The doctor snapped the book shut "Too little to late." He mumbled. The suit and notebook were cleansed and he was back in his uniform in a flash. His footsteps once again echoed down the empty halls. Whilst returning to the lab of another scientist, he thought to himself "It may have been too late for Marcus, but his efforts be wasted."
