Knowing what it means to be captured and experimented on is a given for Eri and Izuku. Nevertheless, it didn't stop them to find each other. Midoriya was a member of the Chisaki clan. He was in the hands of Overhall and it didn't stop him from thinking that Kai wasn't a bad person. There was always a reason for everything and so there must be a reason for why he was so obsessed with quirk elimination too. Being the person he is, Izuku still tries to find a way to save Eri. If he had to choose between saving himself and Eri, then he would go for Eri of course. He would make it happen somehow even if it means suffering on his own.
