It began as a cold, sniffly noses and sore throats. But as the fevers climb, the violent outbursts begin. Teacher, Jess witnesses a horrifying attack in her classroom and from that moment on she understands that the world as she knows it is on the brink of collapse. Information about the virus is limited and many assume it is just another pandemic that just needs a vaccine to be eradicated. The government reassures them that help is on the way and scientists are working towards a cure. But as more and more people in Jess's rural, Ohio town begin to become infected, they're left wondering where it came from and how it spreads? The church at the center of the community that Jess was raised in welcomes people with open arms, promising them safety during what seems like the collapse of the modern world. But Jess knows that there are sinister intentions behind the church's generosity and she is determined to escape their locked doors and armed guards before it's too late. Jess must navigate this crumbling society with the help of her school friend, Caleb, in order to survive both the infection and the dangerous people taking an advantage of everyone's fear. But there is a whole world beyond the confines of her small town full of those infected with the fever for a long time, those who lose who they are and are driven purely by the impulse to attack the living. Will Jess be able to escape the clutches of the doomsday fanatics in the church, and should she trust the reclusive survivalist who seems to hate her from the moment they meet? As Jess lives through the end of the world, she learns that there's more to fear than the undead. Sometimes the living are the real danger.

After hundreds of years of chaos there is finally peace. Humans are now grown in a lab, crafted with perfect, compliant genes as a way of preserving control. With the GROWN program, war, pollution, and death are easily snuffed out by planning who people are and what they grow up to be. The only problem that remains is the rebellion, a small kindling from the old world that refuses to be extinguished. Lane was confiscated by the Council at the age of eight due to being a natural born human. She has spent the past sixteen years learning the ways of the GROWN and being rewired to fit in seamlessly with her lab developed counterparts. Because of her successes in training, Lane has been selected to be an Extinguisher, one of the most dangerous jobs in the Council. This team is sent back to the time before the GROWN program to track down the family of rebellion members and assassinate them to keep the rebellion isolated in the past and eradicate it in the present. While struggling to prove herself worthy of such a position to her superior officer, Lane grapples with her own doubts if becoming one of the GROWN and serving the Council is the right thing to do, or just the best for self-preservation. She soon learns that the past is always doomed to repeat itself if power remains the ultimate motivator. ** Story in progress. I will most likely be updating on Friday or Saturday**

"As I turn onto the main drag that passes the restaurant, flashes of that summer night two years ago start to cloud my mind. The police tape, the blue and red lights, the blood on my hands, my mom screaming at a police officer and my dad trying to hold her back while tears rolled down his unshaven face. I sat on the curb rocking back and forth on my heels as an officer swabbed the blood on my hands. The phone battery was shoved into a plastic bag, the pink gemstone glinting at me from under the wrapping." Two years pass and Jayce's older sister, Alice is still nowhere to be seen. Jayce's book series, the "Absent Alice" novels, have dropped Alice in a fantastical world where nothing can harm her, just how Jayce wants it. But when grisly details are revealed about that summer night, suppressed memories come to light, and the case is reopened, Jayce is forced to come back to reality and face the tragedy affecting her family. A novel about family, love, and betrayal, Absent Alice will have you reading chapter after chapter as the mystery begins to unfold. But be careful, not everything is as it seems. DISCLAIMER: This is a first draft I wrote for Nanowrimo (national novel writing month) so it has not been edited yet
