She has spent the past sixteen years learning the ways of the GROWN and being rewired to fit in seamlessly with her lab developed counterparts. Because of her successes in training, Lane has been selected to be an Extinguisher, one of the most dangerous jobs in the Council. This team is sent back to the time before the GROWN program to track down the family of rebellion members and assassinate them to keep the rebellion isolated in the past and eradicate it in the present. While struggling to prove herself worthy of such a position to her superior officer, Lane grapples with her own doubts if becoming one of the GROWN and serving the Council is the right thing to do, or just the best for self-preservation.
