In space, a young human agent watches in horror as the images are beamed around the world, putting the entire project to integrate humanity into the Commonwealth of Orion at risk. And across the darkness between stars, an alien armada gathers its forces, and aims them right at Earth. Deep in a cave on a remote island lies the key to everything; a small beacon containing the directions to the Hub, the crossroads of the Commonwealth. If the aliens find it and use it to access the Commonwealth's complex network of Starbridges linking its worlds together, the rest of the galaxy will be at their fingertips. Only one person knows where the beacon lies... ...for now.
