When Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise the distribution price one-tenth of a cent per paper, ten cents per hundred, the newsboys, poor enough already, are outraged. Inspired by the strike put on by the trolley workers, Jack "Cowboy" Kelly organizes a newsboys' strike. With David Jacobs as the brains of the new union, and Jack as the voice, the weak and oppressed found the strength to band together and challenge the powerful. (Written by Kaitlin Dwyer Rankins) Jack and David were the main characters, but they could not do it without Spot Conlon. Little is known about the King of Brooklyn, but as a character based on a boy who actually lived, he must have had dreams and ambitions just like fictional Jack and David. Here are my writings in a small attempt to give Spot Conlon the story--and the ending--he deserves.

In 1899, the streets of New York echoed with the voices of newsies. This is the story of a newsie girl named Archer and her place in the strike against Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst.

Kat Kelly, the sister of Jack Kelly and the only female newsie in all of New York. But no one knows that. She disguises herself as a guy so she doesn't get taken back to the orphanage. She keeps her secret well, until the infamous Spot Conlon finds out. Will this cause a relationship to form between the two? What happens when more figure out her secret?

Janella Elizabeth Conlon is the princess of Brooklyn, and the world to her brother, Spot Conlon, who happens to be the King of Brooklyn. Ella's life has been under high protection by her brother and best friend Skippy, but what happens when the newsies from across the river find out about her. Adventures with her new friends might just be the end, or are they just the beginning.

Being Spot Conlon's little sister isn't easy. Never being allowed to fight. Being followed everywhere by Spot's little boids. Did I mention he's a bit over protective? There is one good thing about my life though. When ever I get the chance, I'll sneak out of Brooklyn and go to Manhattan. I love it there! I'll hang with my friends and help them sell papes. Plus, that's where the boy I like is. His name is Crutchy.The thing is I have no idea if he likes me back. And if Spot ever found out I liked a boy, he'd end up dead at the bottom of the East River.
