Vol medelijden keek ik naar de blonde jongen voor me wiens woorden er stotterend uitkwamen. Ergens was ik bang dat zijn woorden enkel een spel voor hem waren waarin ik zijn pion was. Totdat ik de uitdrukking op zijn gezicht opmerkte en besefte dat hij het meende. 'Het is zo fout! Godverdomme het is fout en ik haat het!' Woede, frustratie, wanhoop en onbegrip waren te horen in zijn stem. Hij zakte wederom huilend door zijn knieën, trok ze op en legde zijn gezicht erin. Ik kon het niet aanzien, de jongen voor me ging kapot door zijn gevoelens. Ik kroop langs hem en legde troostend een arm om hem heen. Ik kon niet langer ontkennen hoe ik me voor hem voelde; niet nu hij zo eerlijk zijn innerlijke geheimen uitsprak. Langzaam bracht ik mijn lippen naar zijn oor.
