Now back on Wattpad! ---- In a land covered in eternal night, a young girl's light is all that stands between Mankind and the Forces of Darkness. When the Sun Goddess vanished under mysterious circumstances a thousand years ago, she left the land of Kuro blanketed in eternal night. Over time, the people learn to harness what remains of the Goddess: the precious and finite resource known as the Goddess Essence. Kurokyuu Orbs, miracles of modern technology, harvest the Goddess Essence and provide light and power to all. But there is a problem: the Goddess Essence is running out. And it couldn't have come at a worse time. Whispers abound of a growing evil in the North; stories of shadows that can only be harmed by the light of the sun. From out of the darkness rises the City of the Sun. Light Spires shine through all twenty-four hours, providing artificial sunlight for all. Everyone that is, but the residents of the Utter Darkness. In this forsaken place, Mina, a young orphan, is forced to beg and steal on the streets to sustain herself in the hardscrabble way of life. In the darkest corners, Marauders lurk, hunting little girls, searching for the one known only as "The Maiden". When Mina falls captive to a roving band of Marauders, she is faced with a life-altering decision: reveal the secret she has been hiding her entire life or stay silent and risk losing her already meager existence? When people die as a result of her inaction, Mina realizes her secret is no longer hers to keep. A secret that lies in a most unusual ability: The power to manifest sunlight... [2013 Watty Finalist] Thea Gibson lives a normal life. She waitresses at her local bar, pays her bills on time, has a secret crush on Detective Josh Cooper and let's her friend Shae drag her to parties when she'd rather be curled up at home buried in the latest paranormal fantasy. In one night though, her life becomes a paranormal fantasy when she is attacked by Titans and saved by a man claiming to be Hermes, Messenger of the Gods. Hermes tells her she is a reincarnated deity, with latent powers she must remember so she can return the recently escaped Cronos back to Tartarus. Thea refuses to believe such nonsense but with the strange things happening around her, Thea begins to discover that fantasy is more closer to reality than she once thought... (Sample): I opened my eyes, waiting for the transformation to happen. Less than three seconds later, the change occurred. The transformation never ceased to amaze me and as I watched it, I remembered the times when the water was salty instead of clean, house water. Oh yeah, you still don't know who I am. Well, I'll give you a little summary. My name is Aquarina, Aqua for short. I just moved to Dallas, Texas from a little town called Fort Myers in Florida. I will be a junior in high school this year. Oh and let's just say I'm not your average 17 year old girl. I mean I dress like a normal girl, minus the face cake of makeup and the heels.(Yeah, sorry. I don't do high heels. I only go for 1-inch heels if anything.) I listen to normal music and I talk like everyone else. Normal American accent. I also have a phone, computer, laptop, and all those other electronic necessities. I don't have any mental issues. I was born like any normal baby. Well, that's not entirely true. I am anything but normal or average. You see, my DNA is different. No, I'm not a werewolf. Or vampire, fairy, wizard, witch, or ghost. When my skin comes in contact with water, I change. My eyes and hair change. My eyes become a clear silver and my hair a solid blue, lighter than navy but darker than aqua, sorta like the Crayola color. I get a tail for feet and my scales are the color of my eyes. So now you think "Scales? Like a fish or something?" Actually that is half true. I'm half fish and half human. Yup, that's right. I'm a mermaid. That's not all of it. My family are as well. (End of Sample):
