This story takes place after Broken Throne. The difference is that Mare realizes she doesn't want to go through life without Cal. However, Cal has decided that Norta isn't ready for a big government change, especially after the recent events that have taken place. He takes up the title as King and helps rebuild Norta from the ground up with new council members and people he trusts. Mare takes his side, not loving the idea of being Queen, but loving the idea that she will get to spend the rest of her life with Cal. (I know this doesn't fit the storyline of the books but I'm hoping you guys still enjoy it!)

Cal goes to the scarlet guard in search of Mare. He wants to fix what happened between them...but is it too late, or will Mare be able to open her heart up to him again?
