Charlotte Spindel, known as Lottie by her friends...or...she would be...if she had any friends, had moved to Japan with her family halfway through the year in her first year of middle school. She had a hard time making friends as she struggled to learn the language. The other kids found her odd and more than a little bit creepy. Sometimes they saw her speaking seemingly to herself in her foreign language. One girl saw her pick up a spider and let it crawl around on her hand, since that day everyone wrote her off and wanted nothing to do with her. She went through her entire middle school life without a single friend.
