Diagnosed with severe ADHD and epilepsy, Brooke struggles to make it through seventh grade like any other girl, but with teachers who view her as dim, coaches who view her as weak, and peers who view her as a nobody, she feels more alone than ever. Brooke's only freedom is running, and the beacon of hope that lights her way is called the Springer's Race, the largest race in the group of towns known as Arwick, open to anyone in grades seven to ten.
