MATURE CONTENT+18 "So, what's it going to be, Bella? Will you strip for them or me?" ------------------------- Chin up. Smile wide. And most importantly, don't make a scene when someone gets shot. That's what they told Anastasia Merritt, a twenty-six-year-old waitress at the El Royale, one of New Orleans's most decorated Gentleman's Club. And by decorated, we mean in the blood that's constantly splattered on the walls. The owner was a lesser-known mob gangster who didn't even make the ranks. That didn't stop him from constantly trying to prove his worth, and when he takes it too far one day, the El Royale falls into new management.

BOOK TWO OF THE BLACK SERIES *CANNOT be read as a stand-alone* -- "I mean, let's face it, Hayden," Casey said with a humourless laugh, looking away from me and out at the city of white lights, "you don't want me. You want the thought that you managed to get with me - all of your friends are expecting it, my friends and family are expecting it to happen... it's not long before you wanting me changes and you see how messed up I really am." My eyes narrowed and I turned to face her, grabbing her by the jaw so I was staring into her dark eyes. Casey's breath hitched in her throat and she chewed on her lip, tears gathered in her eyes as our eyes met. "I don't give a flying fuck about what they want to hear or what they expect to happen between us, Casey," I told her, wiping a stray tear away. I smiled when she sniffled. "Stop thinking so much about what other people do and don't expect, alright? I damn well know how insane your family is but I also know how much better you are from them, and it's the good in you that makes me fall deeper with every date we go on." When I cupped her cheek with one hand, Casey's alarmed eyes relaxed and she slowly leaned into my touch, sighing quietly. I pressed my forehead to hers, smiling softly when she tried moving forward for our lips to meet. I pulled away last second, rubbing her bottom lip with my thumb. lol "I'm all yours, baby," I whispered, finally pressing our lips together.

''Don't you remember, little flower?'' he asked, his voice low and melodic, ''Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.'' ''Perhaps,'' I whispered, ''But Shakespeare was referring to a man...'' He cocked his head in confusion, his eyes growing darker. I leaned forward on the throne and brought my eyes up to meet his in an obvious challenge. ''Not a Queen.'' ~~~~~~ There's a whole side to Mara Monroe that's keeping her from what she was born to do. Coincidentally, it's her human side. Mara's always known that she couldn't choose what family she was born into. Even if it comes with a crown she doesn't want, age-old rivalries she doesn't understand, and a bodyguard she can't seem to shake. There are those that would die before seeing Mara on the throne. Or worse. Kill. *completed Book One*

I frown. "So you didn't want to kiss me, then?" Whoa there, why do you sound so desperate? "You wanted a kiss?" he smirked. "I didn't see you as the type of girl to ask for it. If you wanted one, why did you not just do it yourself?" "God, you are so confusing!" My eyes dart around the room. This has to be one of the most uncomfortable situations I have ever been in. - - - He's a beast who can't tolerate disobedience. She's a brat who can't tolerate control. "Follow me," he said gruffly. "But I- ," I stopped when I saw the dark look he gave me. Instead I just looked down and quietly followed him. Once we reached his office I walked inside and immediately shuttered at the draft. Promptly the door slammed shut causing me to jump and it followed by the clicking of the lock. I swallowed the lump down my throat, an ounce of fear trickling through me. "What did I say about running?" He asked in a low, husky voice. "No running," whispered back, not sure if he heard. "And, do you remember what I said would happen next time I caught you running?" He asked. I nodded, my heart thumping extremely loudly in my chest. "Excellent, now bend over the desk," he ordered.
