After defeating the Mage and the Humdrum, Simon feels like he has no purpose. He spends most of his time on the sofa watching movies and drinking cider and trying very hard to not think about how he's lost his magic, Ebb, or his father figure. And he certainly tries not to think about how he's hurting Baz. Baz feels like there's nothing he can do but wait for Simon to realize that killing the Mage wasn't the end of his story: it was only the beginning. He wants to stay by Simon's side, no matter what, but it's proving to be exceedingly difficult when Simon stops communicating with him all together.

Baz is the son of Mr. Pitch, the CEO of Pitch Industries. Instead of focusing on his business studies like he knows he should, Baz spends his time at the local tennis club. He has an obsession with the polo shirts, the courts, the racquets, and even a new obsession with the boy who works at the coffee shop next door: Simon Snow. Simon is a hard-working student who hasn't decided on a major. He has decided that he's got a passion for coffee, tea, and scones, so he works at the local coffee shop. Simon Snow wants to be just like Baz, but the vampire is determined that he will not turn Simon until they are absolutely sure that the pair will stay together. When the pair receive a couple of visitors, Baz seems unable to resist the heir's blood and it is all Penny's fault.

It's been a little over a year since Simon Snow defeated The Humdrum and saved the entire magickal world from destruction. Everyone is moving forward. Penelope's future is bright with academic opportunities across the world. Agatha enjoys a normal life for the first time ever. Even Baz has some secret job that he won't fill Simon in on. But Simon feels stuck. With no magic left and an empty hole inside of him, he can't seem to shake the events of that night in the chapel. Not to mention, his love life is rather complicated considering he's dating a vampire with a temper that also happens to be a boy. All Simon wants now is not magic but purpose. This is a story about what comes after we fulfill our destiny.
