The second wizarding war is finally over. Voldemort is defeated and his death eaters either dead or sentenced to life in Azkaban. Despite the many deaths the order of the phoenix has to mourn, a bit of normality returns to the lives of those who survived. Hogwarts has been rebuilt and now Harry, Hermione, Ron and Ginny are riding the train back there on September 1st, 1998. Will their last year finally be a peaceful one? Eine Fortsetzung zu A Changing Kiss, die gelesen werden sollte, um die Handlung zu verstehen. Hermine Granger hat nun ihren Abschluss geschafft und geht in die Ausbildung als neue Verwandlungslehrerin unter Schulleiterin McGonagall. Sie und Severus haben viel durchgemacht und Lorcan besiegt, doch wird es nicht einfacher. Die Zeit bei dem Wesen verfolgt Hermine noch immer und macht es ihr so gut wie unmöglich Severus voll und ganz zu vertrauen. Doch sind das nicht schon genügend Probleme, so kommt auch noch etwas von ihrer Beziehung heraus, das sie vertuschen wollten. Aber wer steckt dahinter und will ein Keil zwischen die beiden Liebenden treiben, die es schon so nicht leicht haben?
