Vesna Petrović has always been shoved aside, right into the shadows of her two older cousins Nikolai and Alina. Like a side-piece, only convenient when the adults needed something. But being raised in a traditional bosnian household comes with more challenges than you think, instead of worrying about money and career, they worried about useless values. And it drove Vesna insane, every damn member in her family did. Except for her grandma Marta and cousin Nikolai. Who never made her feel weird or different as everyone else described her. But her worst enemies were her own dad and her other cousin Alina.
Alina had always made sure that Vesna knew that she was better in every way. Smarter. Prettier. And just simply better. And that led to Vesna bottling years of resentment and insecurity into bottles of cold looks that could kill, sharp words that could humble but were never wrong, and a personality like steel, and a silent voice with a strong passion for art. Something only a few knew.
Barty was a simple british boy with a pretty interesting style. He wore skulls as rings and painted his streaks green like some life-saving solution to the fact that he was just a teenage dirtbag and nothing more. Or was he?
The second Barty and Vesna met, a spark of rivalry flickered. Not the flirty kind. But rather the quite feral one.
Because Barty was everything Vesna claimed to despise: Loud, Unserious, Weird and immature. But yet somehow, he was was the same boy that she fell for through shared laughter, shared glances and something that you will never get back. Time.
