Heart de Castro sees the red strings of fate, the invisible tie connecting two souls. She believed it was a gift from The Old Man on the Moon, its guardian. However, there's one exception: Heart can't see her red strings. And all her life, she wondered why. Regardless, she used her gift to help others through a blog, proclaiming herself The Old Man's Little Helper. One night, she encountered a man who tried to destroy her life's work. Soon, she meets him again, wearing a staff uniform inside a library at her university. Convince the man was the same person, she expressed her accusations physically, which sent her to the dean's office. As punishment, Heart became the man's assistant. Under his care, the world and their lives began to shift, their strings of fate tangled and bound. Something ancient, powerful, and consuming was awakening. Heart never saw it coming. *31 Oct 2022: This story is on hold.

It's unfair to say Heath's life has gone to shit, because it's pretty much been shit since the day he was born. His abusive father left when he was young, and his mother and brother have never 'forgiven' him (because, of course, they say it's his fault). With no support at home or school, Heath turns to the other outcasts in his neighborhood: stoners, drug dealers, dropouts, burnouts, ravers, goths, and everyone else that doesn't quite fit in with their respective groups. But then, one day, after being reported a runaway, Heath is arrested. He suffers a mental break at the thought of going home, but, luckily, he's a young white boy, so rather than locking him up, the cops bring in a trained psychiatrist to evaluate him, and she realizes: Heath isn't an asshole kid, he's acting out because he's suffering. He clearly has PTSD and potentially the sprouts of antisocial personality disorder, and there are lots of other maybes that need to be checked out. So Heath is taken away from his family and put in a residential treatment center. And even though the kids here are weird and different from the ones he usually hangs out with, maybe he can finally make a connection with someone, for the first time in his life. cw: smoking, drug experimentation, hiv mention, violence, verbal and physical abuse of a child (13 year old), animal cruelty (maybe??? he yells at and pushes a cat), mention of sexual assault, psychiatric hospital/residential treatment center, psychiatric meds, panic attacks, ptsd, flashbacks, cursing, implied anorexia, mentions of suicide attempts

When second year Carthwright University student Olyss Glass is assigned Emory Ghosh as her roommate for the year, she thinks she couldn't possibly have worse luck. Emory is intimidating - as the lead intern at CarthTech, she's heading up a top secret initiative known to the rest of the world as The Gloaming Project, and on top of that, she's the smartest person Olyss has ever met. In an attempt to find some common ground, Olyss convinces Emory to re-open Emory's old amateur detective agency together, but neither of them could have anticipated that a series of seemingly unrelated cases link back to a conspiracy that could threaten the world's freedom of thought. And there's definitely no way they could have known that the conspiracy is Emory's fault.

There's been a monster in the mirror since Ollie was eleven, and he only knows one thing: it despises the color yellow. So, when a truly terrible tragedy involving a spork and a too-long flight of stairs leaves him eyeless, and he's sent down the street to Magdalena's Emporium of the Weird & Wonderful to get a new pair, he knows just what color to choose. But the eyes are more than he bargained for. Ollie starts seeing death in everyone he touches, and the crotchety storekeeper, Susan, holds firm in her No Returns Accepted store policy. Ollie does what any reasonable twenty-something already drowning in insurmountable college debt with no fear of any god (capitalist or otherwise) would do and hires the best lawyer in town to force her hand. Well-versed in the matters of arguing, the lawyer thinks they have a real chance of winning on the grounds that, although these new eyes may be weird, they certainly aren't wonderful. As the legal proceedings develop, Ollie realizes that everyone he knows and loves is destined to die on the same day-a day that's only a matter of weeks away-and he might be the only one who can save them from the unfathomable cosmic entity that's sure to kill them. Nils moves into a ruined cottage in Ireland, where he meets some decent people and one handsome asshole. In a spur of anger and bad decision-making, he gives the locals a wrong impression of his relationship with his soon-to-be housemate. And he really doesn't want to clarify it. ***** Nils just bought a ruined house in the middle of an Irish nowhere. Exhausted from trying to make it a liveable space, he makes a mistake of calling his friend a 'partner' in front of his new friends. They work together, so technically it's not a lie! Can he just blame it on the language barrier? It all works out surprisingly well, until his friend moves in and Nils convinces him to play along. They can pretend to be a couple for a few weeks, then have an amicable break up and it would be so much easier than actually explaining the situation. And it's not like either of them is interested in anybody, right? ***** Updated every Sunday.
