EDITED VERSION ~~~~~~~ Book One of the Forgotten Series. ~~~~~ An Omega must do as an Omega is told. The lesson had been burned into her brain since she was ten years old. A nineteen year old girl who does not know her name, her birthday or her parents. All she knows is what has been beaten into her. The Omega's Mantra. An Omega must do as an Omega is told. One moment changes everything. It sends her life spiraling into chaos and ruin and pushes her closer and closer to death. A simple rejection, a half severed mate bond and the order to tell no one what has happened. An Omega must do as an Omega is told. A red ribbon for banishment and a blue eyed man calling for justice as she makes her walk barefoot in the snow. Cold winds tearing at her skin and the howls of the wolves waiting for her beyond the tree line but she still moves her weak body forward at an Alpha's command. An Omega must do as an Omega is told. Being saved will always come at a price and the girl Alpha Lawrence affectionately called Mary Mary after her favorite nursery rhyme, has paid the price a hundred times over. Now she must be taught that 'Once an Omega' doesn't always mean 'Always an Omega' because family can be found at the darkest of times and not all Omegas need to do as they are told. Trying to work through the mess of her mind, she tries to discover who she is under the cloak of Omega. Drowning in her memories and her anxiety, she struggles to find solid ground before her problems pull her under completely, smothering her cries as she fights for normalcy. All the while she feels she is tethered to something, or someone, she left behind in the pack that banished her.

"Chester Drivel," he was given a tight-lipped smile, "We look forward to watching what a man such as yourself can accomplish in 24 hours. It is twenty seconds to midnight. Are you ready?" The crowd was turning. Chester dodged a shoe and heard someone make fun of his name. It wasn't the first time his name had been disparaged but the shoe throwing was new. Chester nodded and backed away, steeling himself to run to where Vanyla was waiting. The year is 2024 and every state has a special lottery JUST FOR YOU! For 24 hours you can do anything your heart desires with absolutely no consequences or persecution. All you have to do is sign a DNA blood ticket and you could be the lucky winner! Chester Drivel, a man of few words who internally cursed everything and everyone around him, finds that a rash decision may just be what's needed to discern he's got what it takes to shake up his state and the girl coming along for the ride may be even more jaded than he is. *WARNING Mature language and content* Don't forget to vote Thank you Copyright © 2017 by Joy M. What if we were the first in our part of the galaxy to discover the secret of faster than light travel? What if this discovery was 10,000 years before it was supposed to be? Our neighbors had been watching for centuries and were surprised with our early arrival into the Web of Worlds... The Year is 2166: To the people of Earth, the universe seemed to be a very lonely place. Astronomers have discovered tens of thousands of planets; many had indications of organic life. SETI had been searching for signals for over 200 years. There had been a few tantalizing bits of radio or radar energy received but nothing ever proven to be of intelligent origin. But there was an alien civilization out there, in fact many of them linked together in a Web of Worlds. They were watching us quietly, carefully and patiently. It had long been the prime directive of the Web that no developing civilization be contacted until that civilization made it into interstellar space on their own; and that always took time, lots of time. Most Web worlds took 1,000 years or more to go from steam to the atom and none had made it from the atom to a sublight stardrive in less than 5,000 standard years. Every civilization of The Web had proven that faster than light travel was impossible, so there was plenty of time to watch the Earth... The watchers were astounded with the speed of progress of human science and also horrified at the periods of violence. By 2076 nuclear fusion power was widespread on earth. By 2100 the first interplanetary fusion ships explored the Sol system. The men and women of the Anglosphere Alliance began their first missions in ships approaching 0.1c. At that velocity, manned flight to even the nearest stars would take a lifetime. What would happen if a beautiful engineer and a brilliant physicist stumbled upon an artificial gravity field which would make a faster than light drive possible... Only Sam and her friends know what the people of Thule do not: the High Commander is no ordinary man but something more--something evil. Sam is the most promising swordsman among this year’s crop of Paladin trainees...and knows it. Brash, cocky, and unbeatable with a sword (well, almost), Sam is the kingdom of Thule’s best hope against the violence wrought by demons. The only problem is that Sam is really Lady Samantha, daughter of the seventeenth Duke of Haywood, and if her father has his way, she’ll be marrying a Paladin, not becoming one. But Sam has never held much interest in playing damsel-in-distress, and so she rescues herself from a lifetime of boredom and matrimonial drudgery. Pity that Tristan Lyons, the Paladin assigned to train her, is none other than the hero of her childhood. He hasn’t recognized her as Lady Samantha--yet-- but if he does, he’ll take away her sword and send her packing. Sam is not the only trainee hiding secrets: Braeden is a half-demon with a dark past that might be unforgivable. Sam, Braeden and Tristan set out for the western coast, charged with rooting out an infestation of demons that has made the West unlivable. As they travel, they uncover a deep-seated corruption of power that threatens to derail everything they stand for. Rebellion stirs, led by a rival faction of warriors who tempt Sam to join them with an irresistible offer. A war between men is coming, and Sam must pick a side. Will saving the kingdom cost her life -- or just her heart? Reminiscent of Mulan, but with a medieval fantasy twist, Paladin is a tale of adventure, action, and romance.
