Alan was adopted into a new family all the way in Ohio. He didn't have a choice in what he wanted since his social worker had "found the perfect family". Besides, all she wanted was for the young boy to have a fresh start. He's been through the ringer, but without the help of his old best friend he wouldn't know what to do or how to find someone to supply him the same one again. Vic was just your average kid, who had the average amount of friends. But now had to make sure that his "New brother" wouldn't get into trouble. Which annoyed him. He didn't want to be a babysitter, he had to do that with his brother Mike and that led to something terrible. He didn't want that to happen again either. Kellin and Austin were two peas in a pod. They were best friends since day one and have done everything together. Kellin was a smart boy who knew where he was going, but his best friend had taken another route. Though the two were still best friends they both had their own secrets to keep from one another.

Austin, a warm and caring person, applies for a position in a mental hospital far away from his home in Phoenix. Looking to make a difference, and to really start his life, he takes the job. Alan, a 16 year old diagnosed with undifferentiated-type schizophrenia, is just trying to coast and find his way through the hospital without going into an episode when he meets the new orderly, Austin. Austin is taken with the young inpatient's beauty, and finds himself just wanting to be near Alan, and to help him. Alan feels an undeniable attraction to the older, but is ever held back by his paranoid delusions. How will he overcome? And how will Austin deal with his conflicting feelings?
