Before the coming of Islam the world was in a state of oppression and injustice. Pre-Islamic Arabia was a dreadful place to live in as the Arabs were a people without any set moral values. Slavery was an economic institution of the Arabs. Male and female slaves were bought and sold like animals, and they formed the most depressed class of the Arabian society. Illiteracy was common among the Arabs, as were alcoholism and adultery. Those with power and money took advantage of the poor by charging 100 per cent interest on loans. Arabia was a male-dominated society, men could marry any number of women and when a man died, his son "inherited" all his wives except his own mother. Women had virtually no legal status, for example they had no right to possess property and had little to no inheritance rights. Female infanticide was widely practiced as they used to bury their daughters alive. I think you can appreciate why this period of Arab history before the dawn of Islam is known as the period of ignorance!

Quran For All - In Every Hand, In Every Heart "Eclipse.....yet another sign of Allaah's Power" by Asma bint Shameem Two days back, we had a lunar eclipse. Everyone was so excited. They were talking about it for days. They couldn't wait to witness this spectacular phenomenon. After all, it would be the last total lunar eclipse until next year! Some sent emails, some made special plans, some gathered with family and friends so that they can watch and 'enjoy' these few moments together, to be 'entertained' by the night sky, laughing, joking, having a good time. The lunar eclipse was expected to 'delight' skywatchers across the United States and much of the world. Now let's rewind and go back 1400 years ago. It was a similar time. The desert sun was shining brightly when all of a sudden, darkness gathered in the middle of the day. The sun could no longer be seen. It was a solar eclipse. What did the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) do? What did the Sahabah do? Did they all gather together to ' witness this spectacular phenomenon'?...... so that they can 'enjoy' these few moments together?..... to be 'entertained' by the afternoon sky, laughing, joking, having a good time??? NO. What did they do at the time of the eclipse??

Wallahi there is good and bad in everything and everyone. If you look hard enough you can see that. You just need to search for it. And soon you will realise the beauty in everything around you. Always search for the good and ignore and step away from the bad. Be good. Do good. You will make a difference in yourself and others when you start to do this. I pray my words reach your heart and i pray we all try to be the best we can be and make a difference in this world. Xoxo
