Mel Snider is the girl everyone stares at as she walks down the hall. Due to her best friend being the most popular boy in school, she's used to her fair share of malicious glares and gossip surrounding her. The only reason she doesn't let it bother her is because she knows that she'll have to endure it all once she's a famous drummer in a famous rock band. Having been searching for a band for years, she still continues to practice every day. With drumming being her life, she doesn't allow time for anything except schoolwork, her two best friends, and her sister. However, being the only person in school who isn't afraid of the violent bad boy, Devon Quid, she'd been forced to bring him his schoolwork after he refused to come back to school after his suspension ended. With Mel continuously bumping into Devon (as well as finding reasons to go see him), she begins to let him into her life. But letting him into her life means making the time to be with him. After always placing drumming at the top of her list, she wonders if she should continue to focus solely on her drumming, or if it's worth it in the end to balance her time to be with someone special. Inspired by the anime's 'Say, "I Love You",' 'Kimi ni Todoke,' and 'My Little Monster.'

"These people were monsters. Monsters who weren't afraid of the fire they were playing with, running unchecked. And what do you do with monsters? You slay them." River Jones was 11 years old when she was kidnapped, taken from the only life she's ever known. Five years later, she's stuck in a dark cell with no memories of her past, where she is, or how she got there. And even worse.... her captors are scientists that experiment on her. Now, with help from mysterious and handsome Riff, she finds a way to escape. But her captors will stop at nothing to get her back. What is it about this one girl that is so important? Can she find it in herself to trust Riff even though everything inside of her is screaming against it? And why can River suddenly do things she's never been able to do before, things she's only heard about in books and movies? In a world where the only person you can truly rely on is yourself, River has to find the inner power to do the one thing she swore to never do again; trust another person.
