The story is set in an alternate version of Victorian era Europe. The continent is divided into three regions. The Southern region, the Imperio, is ruled by the Impero and his royal court, a group of self-indulgent, hedonistic and morally corrupt noblemen, known as the "Dandes". The North-Western region, the Kingdom of Isleland, is ruled by a royal family that has fallen under the influence of a conservative and occult, rising religion. The North-Eastern region, known as the Zaristat, is under the military, tyrannical regime of the Zar, and is being constantly divided by conflicts between the different ethnic tribes, declaring their independance. The story follows Dande Giacomo Belbo, a charlatan-turned-nobleman with a mysterious past, following his King in the annual gathering of the rulers. Amidst the three royal families, their courts, deadly conspiracies, tyrants, noblemen, cult leaders, diplomats, traitors, liars and criminals, Belbo will find himself in a web of secrets that might be a lot bigger than he thought. If you like the political intrigue of Game of Thrones meets perhaps the oddball Victorian Gothic of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, or a little bit of His Dark Materials, this might be a story for you. :)

*ON HOLD* What do you do when you get kidnapped at knifepoint? What do you do when your kidnapper tells you everything you thought was real is a lie? What do you do when you're confronted with a different world, different friends and a different family? Put it all down to a psychotic episode? You wouldn't be alone. ***** 'It's okay, Araiya, calm down, you're okay. Your brothers sent me. I would never harm you -you're safe now,' he whispers, so softly I can barely hear him, and I'm sure I must have misheard him because I'm pretty sure I just told him my name is Lauren, and I don't have any brothers. 'I'm going to get you out of here, I promise. You'll be home soon, don't worry,' he continues, and his thumb has started...stroking my wrist? What the hell?! 'Don't say anything; I need to keep using you as a cover,' he says quietly, and I decide I must have gone crazy from stress, because this doesn't make any sense at all. 'I'm sorry, this will all be over soon, I promise,' he breathes, and then he's moving away from my ear, and adjusting his grip on my wrists so it's less crushing, although still too firm for me to break free easily. Although he did just say he'd never harm me...and he's 'getting me out of here'? Why? And why did he call me Araiya? Who the hell does he think I am?

A complete fantasy book. Technically ... a weird western. Gunslingers, hex witches, dogmen, minotaur, trains that run further than you can imagine ... Mikeos Jones is a gunslinger, faster than thinking, part of the gunlaw, a man who can seldom afford the luxury of looking past the end of any given day. Jenna Crossard is a hex-witch, but her ambitions are larger than spells and charms - the need to understand the world consumes her. They say the gunlaw keeps men safe from the endless horror of the sect, but to Jenna it's a cage and she wants out. If that means breaking open the world and killing a few gods ... so be it.
