Malenda and August's life can be compared to a piece of paper that has been balled up and then tried to be straightened out. At this point, everything that they have been through has caused some sort of damage. Somehow, they are still holding up. If that piece of paper gets wet, their whole world can come crumbling back down and eventually fall apart. Getting another piece of paper and starting over fresh isn't easy either.
