He slowly turned to me with the meanest look I've ever seen on his beautiful face. His long legs allowed him to take three short steps towards me until we were face to face. He leaned down to reach my height and then pushed me against the wall. "I don't do relationships," he said very coldly. My heart dropped but my pride fell before my heart could reach my stomach. He resumed packing my bag. "Why not?" I asked with an attitude to appear unbothered but I really am. "Because, they're-" his sentence was cut off by gunshots. "Fuck!" He yelled then grabbed me and threw me on the floor behind the bed. _________________________ Life was never easy for Grace whether it was growing up in her country or moving to New York for a better life. Milan Cozart lived on the low-end of Chicago. A part of the city that was unbeknownst to tourists, yet never seemed to leave the front cover of the news... for murders. In this cutthroat slice she called home, there was one rule: Show no mercy. However, when you hold the life of a notorious drug lord in your hands... you may find yourself hesitating. Milan knew the rule, but she also knew who Ramses Young was as well. The man had spared the life of her brother the night her parents had died. Now, he laid bleeding out in her arms. He was meant to die. Because of her, he lived. And, because of her, bodies would drop.

"What's going on Maverick?" she asked through gloss covered eyes. I huffed. I hated the position I was in. I would have to force her to take the oath of Omertà because that's the only way I'd be able to tell her everything. "You are sworn by Omertà not to tell anybody anything I'm about to tell you." "And if I do?" I fell silent as I tried to think of a euphemism. "You and whoever you told will face...dire consequences." I visibly saw her gulp before she nodded her head. I took a deep breath and exhaled in an attempt to calm my rapidly beating heart which was little to no help. It's now or never. "My family is apart of the mafia-" I was cut off by her laughter. She was laughing quite hysterically. I thought I had finally pushed her over the edge. "Tesoro-" "I'm sorry! I just thought you said the funniest thing! I could've sworn you said mafia," she said before she met my eyes. Her smile fell as she searched my face for any sign of deception. I nervously scratched the back of my head as she processed this new information. "You're not kidding," she more so stated than asked. I shook my head as she looked away deep in thought. She bit her lip and started fiddling with her fingers--things she does when she's anxious. I grabbed her hands making her stiffen. I forced the image of Alayah looking panicked due to my touch out of my head and continued to hold her hands. I proceeded to tell her everything. _________________________________ Highest Rankings 🔅 #1 in bwwn (1/26/2021) 🔅 #1 in bgwb (12/26/2020) 🔅 #5 in smoke (1/28/2021) I don't own any of the photos or media used in the book.
