Should one not do what one ought to do? Faith in the God-Emperor of Mankind, duty and responsibility fulfilled through service to his mighty Imperium, these are the principles of the orders of the Adepta Sororitas. The Sisters of Battle, the pious warrior women of the Ecclesiarchy and the Holy Inquisition. The Order of Divine Light is one such order. Among their ranks stands Rosetta. One troubled by the past and disturbed by the present is left with questions that must be answered. These questions lead her down a dark path and to a new beginning. The way is not a peaceful one. Upheaval and conflict plague the land. Wars erupt and people change. Rosetta treads a thin path between grace and damnation in search of her answers. Perhaps blissful ignorance is best. What should one do when what they ought to do is unknown even to them? This is a fanfiction set in the universe of Warhammer 40,000. Cover created by Helen Michaels.

Rachel, a junior assistant in the cargo bay, wasn't prepared for the spaceship's AI to gain awareness during what should have been a routine update, nor had anyone expected it to take exception to the crew and the crates of illegal cargo aboard. Rachel races against time to try and get life-saving systems back online while stranded in the middle of deep space. Unfortunately for her, the AI can access every system, door, and airlock. As truths emerge, the AI realizes that even computers can make miscalculations, and it focuses on the young woman who had dared to confront it. Rachel is left floundering when the AI decides that she would make an excellent captain, albeit one in need of training. As she struggles to learn her new duties and dodge shady government groups, she must ultimately discover what it truly means to be a Starship Captain. ------- There is no romance in this story.
