LarkspurDreams
Lyra Elcott believes in happily ever afters, although you'd never know it from her attitude. A survivor of childhood cancer, she's had to fight hard for her own happy ending, and she will not let anything get in the way of it. Now a teenager, she often retreats into the worlds of tabletop gaming and fantasy novels to escape the harsh memories of the real world. That is, until her best friend Dash is diagnosed with the same disease she beat, forcing her to finally face her own past. Dash was there for Lyra when she went through her treatment, and she's determined to return the favor despite the pain it causes her.
Dash, on the other hand, believes in the here and now. He would rather savor every moment, commemorating it with a photograph and making notes for the school yearbook. He's always kept Lyra grounded in the present, even when she'd rather escape into fiction. But now, facing his own mortality, he's finding it harder than ever to stay in the moment. Photography becomes his saving grace, allowing him to document the nasty realty Lyra would prefer to look away from. He knows Lyra hates the ideas of keepsakes now, but also knows that come what may, this is a chapter of his life he can't ignore.
Lyra has always hated tragedies. She will not let Dash become one.
