"Hi!" I smile up at him. He's a lot taller than I expected, especially compared to my 5'4 height. "Hello?" He responds, raising an eyebrow. "I just... um... noticed you were in history with me and was wondering what's your name." I respond, slightly confused by his cold tone. "I'm Hakeem." He says simply. So he's not even going to ask for my name? Who does he think he is? He should be honored to know my name. I think to myself jokingly. "Don't you want to know my name?" I ask, raising an eyebrow in confusion. "Nope." * Roxanne Williams has everything a 17 year old girl could want: Two loving parents. A ride or die best friend. A position at the top of her school's social chain. When her math grade starts to sink, she's forced to learn that her bubbly charm isn't going to solve all her problems. Her math teacher takes notice and assigns her one of his best students as a tutor. She meets Hakeem Rashford: a smart, attractive, but intimidatingly serious guy. His mysterious persona draws her in even though he makes it clear to her that he's not interested. She doesn't know why he seems to have a burning hatred for her and everyone else at their school; but, she wants to find out. What he doesn't know is: when Roxanne wants something, she gets it. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and for these two, their lives have been planned down to a science. For Wylan Olson, being yourself can be very stressful. Since she was young, her emotions have always been backwards. The embodiment of 'tears of joy,' that laughs to keep from crying, not many people understand her struggle. Mostly because she barely understands it herself, but she's making it...barely. All she wants to do is make something out of herself, and she's willing to work for it. Kwame Okari has been raised to be perfect. His parents' strict expectations at son leave no room for friendships, which they regard as frivolous. Their only concern is for him to be Ivy League, and he cannot afford to disappoint. He is a boy on a mission, with a clear objective: be first. And there's only one person standing in his way-Wylan. As the two develop a better understanding of each other, competing agendas complicate their relationship forcing them to decide which is more important: attraction or ambition, satisfaction or success, friendship or fruition, and lead them to wonder if one has to be mitigated for the other.
