The war was over. At long last, Voldemort was dead, and this time, he won't return. Unfortunately, those who were attending Hogwarts during the war were unable to learn anything. So of course, when Hogwarts sent all those students letters offering to have the re-do their previous year, everyone jumps at the chance, all of them thinking that they would finally have a peaceful, or at least uneventful, year at Hogwarts.
