Asta has inherited his mother's ability to summon creatures called 'grimm' and his father's magic, called magic armory. Asta's father was a treasure hunter who went into dungeons to find magic items. Asta is thought to not have magic, but during the grimoire ceremony, a grimoire came to him and two scrolls to go with it, which unleashes his magic. The scrolls turn out to be what was left of his parent's grimoires, they both used a spell to seal their spells into the scrolls and when Asta gains his grimoire, the scrolls react and mesh with his grimoire, giving him his parents' magic and items.
